STUDENT WELLBEING

  • SMOB ADVISORY COUNCIL
Organize the largest SMOB Advisory Council in history where hundreds of students (K-12) from all schools assist the SMOB in representing the student voice. Work with a diverse group of students, reflective of the beautiful diversity within MCPS. Host hybrid (in-person and Zoom) SMOB Advisory Council meetings centered around key issues and organize the in-person meeting locations at schools located in different regions of the county.
  • COMMUNICATION
Send out monthly “SMOB Minute” video recaps and monthly newsletters to all student inboxes to inform students about my work/accomplishments each month. Visit all middle and high schools at least once during my term to connect one-on-one with students and hear their concerns. Host community events, town halls, and forums throughout the year to gauge student input on relevant issues. Meet with youth groups including MCR, MCJC, Eco MoCo, MoCo EmpowHER, MoCo Pride Youth, MoCo for Change, school clubs, and more to transfer their concerns and ideas back to the Board of Education. Maintain an active social media presence on all social media platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.
  • CIVIC ENGAGEMENT
Organize voter registration drives at all schools across the county to aim to register 100% of eligible student voters in MCPS before the 2026 midterm elections. Work with the County Council to explore lowering the voting age to 16 years old for MCPS Board of Education elections. Work with the Director of Student Leadership and Extracurricular Activities to expand Student Government Associations (SGAs) to more elementary schools. Pass a resolution to allow three excused absences per year for civic engagement. Work with the Special Elections Committee to increase SMOB election voter turnout and ensure future SMOB elections always remain equitable and fair. Collaborate with other SMOBs across Maryland to help them gain full voting rights on their Board of Education.
